Director of Bands, Bayside Intermediate
Kyle Mapp is the Director of Bands at Bayside Intermediate School. Mr. Mapp received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Houston, Moores School of Music. Mr. Mapp conducts the Wind Ensemble, assists with the Symphonic Winds, and teaches beginning Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, and Saxophone.
Mr. Mapp is proud to continue the successful traditions at Bayside Intermediate. Previously Mr. Mapp taught for three years in Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District and for two years in Austin Independent School district. Under his direction, the Bayside Wind Ensemble has earned consecutive sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and numerous “Best in Class” and “Overall Outstanding Ensemble” awards at festivals throughout Texas. In 2015 and 2017 the Bayside Wind Ensemble was recognized as the 13th and 2nd runner up in the TMEA Honor Band process respectively.
While attending the University of Houston, Mr. Mapp studied Saxophone with Dr. Karen Wylie and Dr. Valerie Vidal. Mr. Mapp has performed with the world-renown University of Houston Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, The University of Houston, Spirit of Houston, Cougar Marching band, The University of Houston Saxophone Choir, and various chamber ensembles. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Associations, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
Assistant Director of Bands, Bayside Intermediate
Mark Walls has been the Assistant Director of Bands at Bayside Intermediate since 2014. Mr. Walls received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas in 2012. Mr. Walls graduated High School in 2007 from Friendswood High School in Friendswood, Texas and was a member of the 2006 Texas Music Educators Association 4A Honor Band under the direction of Gregory Dick. Mr. Walls conducts the Bayside Symphonic Winds, assists with the Wind Ensemble, and teaches beginning Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba.
Mr. Walls started his teaching career in 2012 at Space Center Intermediate School in Houston, Texas as Assistant Director of Bands. Under his direction, the Bayside Symphonic Winds has received Superior Ratings at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contests as well a Sweepstakes Award in 2017. His bands have also received numerous “Best in Class’ awards at festivals throughout Texas.
While attending the University of Texas, Mr. Walls studied trombone with Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. Under Dr. Brickens direction, Mr. Walls performed with the internationally-acclaimed University of Texas Trombone Choir all across Europe. He also performed with the University of Texas Longhorn Band and University of Texas Wind Symphony. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
